Send Clear Messages: Communicate the ‘Core Idea’
As I mentioned in a previous post, I was lucky enough to speak at the W.P. Carey School’s Compete Through Services Symposium. Coming out of that, Dale Dauten did a wonderful piece on how to “Leave ’em wanting more” based on some of the ideas I shared in the session.
Another article by Kerri Susan Smith has just been published on the W.P. Carey site. Her article further elaborates on the methods we discussed in the breakout session. She’s done a wonderful job capturing the essence of the methodology. I encourage you to read the article HERE.
Additionally, the W.P. Carey site has some AMAZING articles published there regularly. It’s a fantastic business resource you should consider taking advantage of. I hope you’ll check out their site and subscribe to their feed as well.
Great article link, how many times I’ve gone to a meeting where the chairperson hands out a forty page PowerPoint print-out. Kind of makes you want to run for the door, because no where in the presentation is the core idea highlighted. One hour into the meeting we are bogged down with questions about slide #4, with no hope in sight of coming to a conclusion. The chairperson schedules another meeting (twice as long) to continue the topic. Wonder what they would do, if asked to summarize it all into one slide.

Bottom line up front. Then move on with your message. Works for me every time.
