9 Reasons Your LinkedIn Profile Views Dropped and Best Ways to Fix It

June 29, 2015/2 Comments/in Career, Guest Blogger, Social Media /by Mike Figliuolo

Are you experiencing profile view dropped on your LinkedIn Profile?  These 9 reasons your profile views dropped will help provide the fixes you need.

Today’s post is by Lisa Rangel – an Executive Resume Writer and Official LinkedIn Moderator at ChameleonResumes.com.

LinkedIn can be a truly powerful tool for creating meaningful business connections across the world and has helped thousands of people and companies find each other.  However, in order to be discovered on LinkedIn by companies in search of new talent, you need to make sure your profile is as visible as possible.

One problem experienced by many users is a drop in page views.  This means that there aren’t as many people or companies taking a look at your skills or talents which will then translate into fewer offers for interviews and it could even mean you are bypassed for a position that would have just been perfect for you.

Take a look at the following reasons for the possible cause and make the necessary changes to get your profile seen again by the right individuals.

You have not used all the skills allowed. LinkedIn allows you to include up to 50 different skills in your profile so you can truly show prospective employers what you are made of.  One of the biggest mistakes many people make when setting up their LinkedIn profile is not including as many different skills as possible.  If an employer searches for a specific skill and you have not listed it on your profile, you will not show up in the search results.

You changed the focus of your profile. If you were once ranking high for your current position, but changed the focus of your profile in an effort to search for a higher level position, you will notice a drop in views.  People who are already in the higher level roles you are seeking to break into will already have a maintained presence in those positions and will therefore get more traffic and views to their profiles.

You are discreet in your desire for a promotion or change. If you are currently working, you do not want to endanger your current standing with the company even if you are in search of a new role that allows you to further advance your career.  While overtly putting your desire for a new job and a promotion on your profile will help you get more views, you must be cautious so you don’t jeopardize your current position.  The more discreet you are, the lower your views will be.

Failing to use space effectively.  LinkedIn gives you more than enough space to list all your achievements and awards you have received during your professional life.  These awards can make you look more attractive to potential employers and LinkedIn tends to rank profiles better if content nears the limits of the available space.  This practice should be carefully tested, however, as it is not an exact science.

Poor use of characters in your tag line. Poor use of characters in your tag line can make your tag line appear sloppy or hard to read.  In some cases, people quickly browsing profiles may even mistake some characters as letters making your tag line appear to read very poorly.  For example, if you use the divider character ( | ) it could be mistaken as an uppercase “i” which could make your tag line difficult to read.  Examine carefully how you use these types of characters to ensure that your tag line is easy to read in even the quickest of profile glances.

Failure to Adapt to Changes to LinkedIn. LinkedIn made changes to its free membership benefits limiting the number of searches per free member.  This in turn decreased the number of searches conducted by many of the free members who were unwilling to upgrade to a paid membership.  Unfortunately, there is little you can do to help your profile with his aside from being sure it is in the best shape it can possible be to get noticed by more searches even if fewer searches are being made.

You are not blogging. LinkedIn has recently made some changes to its policies and focus.  As a result, it is now placing much more emphasis on both value interaction and content creation.  When you publish a new article, LinkedIn will notify all of your connections providing more opportunities for your profile to be viewed and it will reward your profile with better results in search. Blogging is one of the easiest things you can do to boost your LinkedIn views.

Your connections adapted before you. If you have noticed many of your connections are consistently ranking higher than you, this could be because they adapted to the changes in LinkedIn before you and are already reaping the benefits of being seen.  Examine what they are doing in detail and try to replicate their practices so you can enjoy the benefits or added profile views as they are.

You are on LinkedIn, Not working LinkedIn. There is so much more to LinkedIn then just creating your profile and leaving forgetting about it.  LinkedIn requires more than just a “build it and they will come” attitude.  Once you have made the necessary changes to your profile, you need to actively participate in the community.  Comment on other people’s articles with meaningful insights and post to your own profile regularly through status updates and blog articles.  Don’t just be on LinkedIn, work LinkedIn as you would any other resource.

If you notice your profile views are dropping, checking the reasons above can give you the perfect place to start so you can ensure your profile is viewed by the right people at the right time.

This does not explain it. If I go to LinkedIn now and then go to another page and come back, my profile views go down. I have been on LinkedIn most of today and my profile views have gone down to 145. Now, after the last sentence, I went back to LinkedIn in another tab and my profile views are 143.

There is something else going on,
