Ruth began her career as a speechwriter and press secretary after obtaining a Speech Communication degree from Miami University. After having roles as a press secretary on national presidential race, and in directing leadership giving at the local United Way, Ruth’s diversity of experience lead her to her own PR consultancy over a decade ago. At Milligan Communications and ar.tic.u.la.tion, she specializes in helping mid-and small-size businesses execute strategic communication campaigns, from stakeholder events to crisis management. She also conducts coaching and training specifically geared toward helping rising executives find and perfect their story and voice. While Ruth has been a communications and PR professional her whole career, her passion is helping others become outstanding speakers and presenters. As an executive speech coach and trainer she works with both individuals and small groups in improving both the style and content of any size presentation. But her approach is uniquely different as also she blends advanced training in critical thinking for storytelling to accelerate the traditional public speaking fundamental skills. Alongside of Ruth’s training and coaching, she is a fifth-generation curator for TEDxColumbus (the local franchise of TED) and hosts the world-wide webinar TEDx Learning Series for TEDx licensees. In these roles, she’s both coaching speakers and other organizers on best practices toward crafting TED-style talks – a one of the most effective and popular platforms for articulating high-value ideas in the world today. Ruth calls her work with TEDxColumbus a laboratory which leads to a deep understanding the vast differences of how speakers craft, edit, practice and perfect a talk. Ruth serves as a thoughtLEADERS Senior Instructor on the subject of communications and influential storytelling. |
